Hatt St
On Hatt St, RockALevel transformed a charming bungalow by adding a new front bedroom with ensuite and fully updating key interior spaces. The home keeps its original character from the street, but now has a custom upper suite and modern details that make it feel completely refreshed.

Front Addition That Respects the Original Home
Instead of building a full second storey, we designed a focused front addition that adds meaningful space without losing the scale of the original house. The existing roofline at the back remains, while the front portion was opened up, framed, and rebuilt to create a new bedroom and ensuite above. From the road, the house still feels like the same welcoming home—porch, steps, and railings intact—but with a new, more substantial front elevation. The updated roof form and dormer-style volume give the property better curb presence and a more balanced look between the neighbouring homes, all while staying true to the original style.

New Bedroom With Vaulted Ceilings, Light & Ensuite
Inside the new addition, the focus is on height, light, and calm finishes. The bedroom features vaulted ceilings with exposed wood beams and circular windows that bring in natural light and give the room a custom architectural feel. Clean white walls and warm flooring keep the space bright and simple, letting the shapes of the ceiling and windows stand out. The ensuite continues that modern, minimal approach: a walk-in glass shower, large-format tiles, wall-hung toilet, and simple fixtures work together to create a spa-like room that still feels practical for everyday use. It’s a huge upgrade from what the home could originally accommodate, turning unused roof space into a comfortable, private retreat.

Custom Pocket Doors, Storage & Thoughtful Details
Beyond adding square footage, this project is about making every inch work harder. The new upper level features custom arched pocket doors in deep navy with brass hardware—small details that immediately give the home personality. Downstairs, the staircase is wrapped with built-in storage under the stairs, providing hidden cabinetry that blends seamlessly into the wall. These touches—custom doors, clean millwork, tailored storage—tie the whole renovation together. The Hatt St project shows how RockALevel can carefully add onto an existing home, improve its functionality, and layer in custom details so it feels designed, not just “added on.”
